IKEA Linnmon Coffee Table Hack

IKEA Linnmon table hack

Easiest IKEA hack ever!

Behold, the SUPER DUPER EASY (and cheap!) IKEA Linnmon hack for this gorgeous mid-century modern coffee table!

When a friend approached me asking me if I could help her with finding and possibly refinishing an inexpensive coffee table for her new place, I was more than on board. Her specifications included something white (or that could easily be painted white), modern looking, and inexpensive. She searched high and low on a local buy and sell site, and we spent a whole day hopping from secondhand store to secondhand store, all with no success.

Then I thought, I absolutely love IKEA hacks…why not do something with the $10 Linnmon table top? It’s white, it could look awesome and super modern with some cool legs, AND it’s cheap! She had just bought a side table that had metal legs, so we decided to go with those to match. Without further ado, I present the instructions!

Materials Needed

1.  IKEA Linnmon table top

2.  Set of four 14″ or 16″ Hairpin legs (we used 16″ legs)

3.  3/4″ screws (x12)

+ a screwdriver

+ a drill (if you have one)

Flip the tabletop over so that you can work underneath it. Ignore the pre-drilled holes that come with the tabletop – you are going to make  your own! First, decide where you want the legs to go and position them (we decided to go with 1 inch from the edge of the tabletop for all of the legs). Once the leg is placed exactly where you want it, grab a pen or pencil and mark where the screws will go.

Then – if you have a drill – all you gotta do is drill holes where you marked them in the previous step. Be gentle with the drill though, as parts of the tabletop are hollow, so once you drill through the first layer, you will quickly be at the layer that’s the top of the table (something you probably don’t want to dril through). If you don’t have a drill, skip this step.

Finally, line up the legs with your pencil or drill marks and add the screws. This should be really easy if you drilled your holes. If you didn’t use a drill, use your screwdriver to put the screws in (you will have to use a lot of force on the areas that aren’t hollow).

And that’s it! This is honestly one of the easiest IKEA hacks ever, yet it looks like an awesome mid-century modern piece of furniture. Isn’t it amazing what a basic table top and some legs can do?!

I’m so stoked on this table and I think it looks so sleek and minimal! And if you need some new coasters for your coffee table, check out my dollar store hack DIY Geometric Coasters!

Have you ever hacked the Linnmon, or another IKEA product, before? If so, I wanna hear about it!
